WWW Wednesday ~ Dec. 14 2016

Hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words and recommended by Gretchen from chicnerdreads I decided I wanted to play too!

The questions are:
1. What are you currently reading?
2. What did you recently finish reading?
3. What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I am just starting Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth – This is an ARC book I received from work (Books A Million) given by Katherine Tegen Books.

20161214_110806

Fans of Star Wars and Divergent will revel in internationally bestselling author Veronica Roth’s stunning new science-fiction fantasy series.

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

About 2 days ago I finished Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Loved, loved, LOVED it! The Goodreads synopsis link here – readers giving it a 4.1

I am giving it a 5 out of 5! My review is underway but wrote this:

“Well done Marissa Meyer! How you can make a ‘villain’ into a cherished character – I am in so much awe with this book, I cannot complete full sentences!”

What do you think you’ll read next?

28220758.jpgI have 2 choices for this and it all depends on which I receive first!

First choice is Midnight Hour
(Shadow Falls: After Dark #4)
by C.C. Hunter.

Gretchen gives it a great review here that has me excited to read it and compare notes! If you are not following chicnerdreads – start! 🙂
As she said in her WWW Wednesday ” I would definitely suggest checking out the book that started it all, Born At Midnight (Shadow Falls #1).”28960100.jpg

My second option is the fantastic finale to the Firebird series – A Million Worlds with You by Claudia Gray. First in this series is A Thousand Pieces of You. I reviewed this with a 6 out of 10 (the 5 scale was too limited for me). Feel free to scan over my review post! I am also in the midst of the second book’s review which is Ten Thousand Skies Above You

Give me a few comments if you have read any of these – Love to know what you think!

~Penny for your thoughts!

  1. ohmygosh! thanks for mentioning me! I’m so happy that you did this. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO START MIDNIGHT HOUR!! Will you write a review for it? I would love to talk to you about it once you’re done with it lol!
Heartless was amazing, I’m happy you enjoyed it as well. Marissa did such a great job with recreating the Alice in Wonderland world.
How are you liking Carve the Mark?

  2. Oh yeah, I will definitely review it. It’s been a minute since I read the others, so I may put small reviews of them in midnight hour (I don’t think I’ll have enough for a full review, but we’ll see).
    Your reviews are great, btw!

I of course knew how Heartless would end but still hoped differently! Marissa definitely made me love the characters which gives me joy and sadness haha!

I’m not even a full Chapter into Carve the Mark yet. Veronica hasn’t given me any details yet about where “I am” other than a solar system where the supreme power is called the current, and that was explained to me in a letter from the publisher. My first impression is if you have to tell me this before the book begins, will it be explained later. I suppose I should keep reading – that’s just my first thought! 🙂

  4. I’m new to your blog Penny but see that my book twin Gretchen is not lol. So glad you enjoyed Heartless, I’m a big fan of Marrisa’s characters & thought that she created the perfect back story for the infamous Queen Of Hearts. That’ll be one tough act to follow 😉 I’ll keep an eye out for your thoughts on Carve The Mark. Gretchen had convinced me to read the Shadowfalls series so I’ll be binging them next summer. Lastly, I may just give in and buy Claudia Gray’s trilogy since it’s been tempting me for far too long lol. Happy reading December 😊💕

    • Thank you! Marissa has done wonderful things and I just want to talk all about it haha. I really liked to Shadowfalls series. There are books I read and there are books I buy… they are on my shelf! Claudia Gray’s series has ups and downs… I’m that person who yells at tvs and books!
I hope you enjoy them all and if you don’t, you at least got them off your list! Happy Reading!
